Fort Grey campground is a great place to take a break on your NSW outback tour. Set amongst sweeping sand dunes and suitable for caravans and motorhomes, it’s the ideal base to explore the western part of the park.
After being cooped up in your vehicle, you’re bound to want to stretch your legs a little. There are some marked day walks close to the campground, including the walk across Lake Pinaroo to Sturt’s tree available when the lake is dry. You can also explore the ruins of the Old Fort Grey homestead or explore the area by bicycle.
Cameron Corner, where the borders of NSW, Queensland and South Australia meet and the Dingo Fence extends as far as you can see is a good day trip from Fort Grey. There’s a store so you can refresh supplies and fuel if need be. The campground is also close to one end of Middle Road if you feel like a day of 4WD touring.
